Wendy graduated with a bachelor’s degree in a field vastly different from business. Following graduation, she pursued a career as a Language Teacher, focusing on teaching a foreign language to non-native speakers. While her academic and professional background reflected rich experiences, they initially posed challenges for her MBA application, as they were not traditionally aligned with business studies.
This, coupled with the competitive nature of MBA admissions at Brock University, made her profile seem less conventional for the program.
Turning Entrepreneurial into a Strength
However, what set Wendy apart was her unique combination of entrepreneurial spirit and academic excellence. In 2018, she founded a company dedicated to her teaching business and offering foreign language and cultural programs for multinational corporations and international schools. Her company’s innovative approach, including customized offline courses and AI-assisted online learning, earned it acclaim and contributed to its growth.
Wendy’s professional achievements were matched by her outstanding academic performance. She achieved an impressive IELTS (Academic) score of 8.0 in a single attempt, with perfect scores in both Reading and Listening—a natural result of her years of experience teaching foreign students in English. Her GMAT score of 640 further demonstrated her analytical capabilities. These academic accomplishments complemented her entrepreneurial success, creating a compelling overall profile.
