When Will IRCC Respond
If you’re looking to check the status of your Canadian visa application, understand delays, access case notes, or retrieve application records, you can file an Access to Information (ATI) or Access to Personal Information (ATP) request with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). To increase the likelihood of receiving a timely response, ensure you provide the following:
A clear scan of your passport’s bio page and the page bearing signature as submitted in your application (photo may be accepted but should be high quality).
Your application number (a number following one letter) – Mandatory for identifying your case.
Unique Client Identifier (UCI) (all numbers) – Optional but helpful for faster processing.
When to Submit an ATIP Request
Depending on the completeness of your documents and information, you may or may not submit the request.
Confident Submission: You include a valid application number and, ideally, your UCI. And your passport scan is legible and matches records with IRCC.
Uncertain but you can try:
- Missing UCI may slow processing, as IRCC will rely solely on the application number.
- Poor-quality passport scans may result in a request for resubmission.
- Recently filed applications (1-2 days) may not yet be accessible in IRCC systems.
Processing Not Possible:
- Requests without an application number cannot be processed.
- Omitted or unreadable passport scans prevent identity verification.
